This October 27th, I will be teaching a full-day course at the Owen Sound Artist's Co-op Workshop where students will make two rustic journals - one little chubby one and one larger.
The two blank journals will have exposed spine sewing and “limp” covers, made from soft materials like wool felt, vinyl or leather, that wrap around the fore-edge of the book to the front.
Students can experiment with decorative closure methods that will include elements like spoons, buttons, chopsticks or pencils. Students will learn traditional long and link stitch sewing and explore options for funky ways to build a closure mechanism.
