WORKSHOPS SAT MAY 17

Painterly Printmaking—Gel-plate Monoprints

Sat - May 17, 2025 - 9:00-11:00 AM
Instructor: Paul Hunter, Mammoth Hall Press

Monoprint is the most accessible printmaking technique and the best introduction for artists and crafters. When non-toxic and non-perishable alternatives to the old gelatin printing methods were developed, artists finally had a matrix with a sensitive surface that was both easy to clean and ready to print. Now the plates are easily available in arts and crafts stores allowing artists and makers of all skill levels to expand their image-making possibilities.
Participants will express their creativity on the gel-plate with acrylics, building up their images. They will then learn a couple of techniques for printing the plate. Freedom of expression and exploration of the medium are encouraged. The results of this technique are very rewarding and can easily become part of any artist’s daily practice.
Participants will leave with a whole new appreciation of gel-plate mono printing and a small collection of beautiful prints on fine paper.

Columbian Press—Mottos & Mantras

Sat - May 17, 2025 - 12:30-2:30 PM
Instructor: Tim Dyck, The Colour Jar

Print a letterpress poster with your personal mantra or verse. In this 2-hour workshop students will learn basic typesetting techniques to create an edition of three 8x10 poster prints.
Using type from Tim's collection, each participant will learn how to properly compose, lock-up, and print a form on the impressive Columbian press.

Bring quotes, jokes, words of wisdom, or your favourite text to class to see in print. Make it short and sweet: keep text within 8 words or about 60 letters.

The Waterfall Structure & Flip Book

Sat - May 17, 2025 - 11:30 AM -2:30 PM
Instructor: Barbara Helander, Book Arts Barb

In this workshop, you will make two structures: the waterfall and its cousin, the flip book.

Both structures are playful and dynamic, lending themselves easily to storytelling, photos, poetry, and art. Creative expression is boundless with these forms!

Participants in this workshop will create two models that reflect the bright summer season— “Summer Blooms” and “Groovy Good Vibrations.”
